Work created in the Cross Timbers Series is placed outside in the weather over many days. Slowly during this time paint is applied to the surface among wind, rain, ice, falling leaves, rusting nails, washers, vines etc. When properly weathered, the work is then brought into the studio to rest where bold brush strokes are applied by hand. The Cross Timbers is the natural geographic region of North Texas and in a sense the Cross Timbers and the artist are acting in duet to create Plein Aire Abstract paintings.
